Seferihisar & Sığacık

Seferihisar and Sığacık offer a peaceful combination of Aegean coastal life, traditional architecture and ancient history. Located southwest of İzmir, the area is known for its relaxed atmosphere, local markets, seaside scenery and well-preserved historical sites. At the heart of Sığacık stands Sığacık Castle, a historic fortress that has protected the harbour area for centuries. A short distance from Sığacık lies the Ancient City of Teos, one of the important Ionian cities of the ancient Aegean. Founded in antiquity, Teos developed as a centre of maritime trade, culture and artistic life because of its strategic position beside the coast. One of the most significant structures at Teos is the Temple of Dionysus, dedicated to the god of wine, theatre and celebration. The city also preserves remains of its ancient theatre, agora, city walls, harbour structures and other public buildings that reveal its former importance. Teos was particularly associated with poets, musicians and actors, and the city became an important centre for artistic communities in the ancient world. Its archaeological remains, surrounded by olive trees and the Aegean landscape, create a peaceful setting for exploring the history of Ionia. Together, Sığacık Castle, Sığacık Old Town and the Ancient City of Teos reveal the historical and cultural character of Seferihisar.
