Gökçeada

Gökçeada, historically known as Imbros, is Türkiye’s largest island and one of the most peaceful destinations in the northern Aegean. Its rugged coastline, traditional villages, olive groves and windswept beaches create a landscape shaped by both nature and centuries of multicultural island life. Kaleköy is one of the island’s best-known coastal settlements. Located beneath the remains of an old hilltop fortress, it offers views across the harbour and the northern coastline. Zeytinli Village is one of Gökçeada’s historic Greek villages and is known for its narrow streets and traditional stone architecture. Local cafés are especially associated with dibek coffee, mastic-flavoured pudding and other island specialities, making the village an enjoyable stop for visitors interested in local flavours. Tepeköy is situated on the higher slopes of the island and preserves the atmosphere of a traditional village surrounded by rural scenery. Nearby, the historic plane tree and recreational area provide a peaceful setting, while the elevated location offers attractive views across Gökçeada’s hills and valleys. Dereköy was once one of the island’s largest settlements. Although much of the village is quieter today, its old houses, fountains, churches and traditional street plan preserve important traces of Gökçeada’s Greek cultural heritage. It remains one of the island’s protected historic villages. On the southern coast, Aydıncık Beach is known for its long sandy shoreline and steady winds. It has become a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while the nearby Salt Lake adds another distinctive natural feature to the landscape. Together, Kaleköy, Zeytinli, Tepeköy, Dereköy and Aydıncık Beach reveal the cultural and natural diversity of Gökçeada.
